First Presbyterian Church in Maryville had been looking for a global mission project for several months when the idea hit Rev. Jonathan Mitchell.
The church belongs to the Heartland Presbytery, which also includes Neema Fellowship, a Swahili-speaking congregation in Kansas City started by Dr. David Nzioka.
Rev. Mitchell was speaking with Nzioka, who is from the remote Kenyan village of Thwake, around the same time the church was receiving bids for their roof which was damaged in the storm last August.
