Presbyterian Church aspires to pay it forward

First Presbyterian Church in Maryville had been looking for a global mission project for several months when the idea hit Rev. Jonathan Mitchell.
The church belongs to the Heartland Presbytery, which also includes Neema Fellowship, a Swahili-speaking congregation in Kansas City started by Dr. David Nzioka.
Rev. Mitchell was speaking with Nzioka, who is from the remote Kenyan village of Thwake, around the same time the church was receiving bids for their roof which was damaged in the storm last August.
“It turns out that we needed to roof part of our building,” Mitchell said, and the total cost for the repairs was about $70,000. He learned from Nzioka that a church building in

Since 1997, the surface area of Mozingo Lake has gained 10 acres due to deteriorating shoreline according to Randy Buck, USDA resource conservationist in the Nodaway County field office.
